Anger in Egypt over the Uyghur movement's declaration of support for Israel and rejection of Hamas

The leader of the Egyptian Al-Ghad Party and a previous contender for president in 2018, Moussa Mustafa Moussa, declared that he strongly disagreed with the Uyghur movement's declaration of support for Israel and labelled Hamas as a terrorist organisation. Musa believed that this statement was a shame to the movement and the people who made it since it shows support for the vicious Israeli onslaught against helpless civilians in Gaza, particularly women and children. In addition, he saw it as a betrayal of Islam and the Palestinian cause.

In response, the Egyptian Youth Council—led by renowned Egyptian civil society group Mohamed Mamdouh—released a statement sharply denouncing the remarks of the Uyghur Revolution. The movement's complicity in the atrocities and massacres committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people in Gaza was deemed by the Council to be represented by this statement.

The declaration from the Uyghur movement was also denounced by former Egyptian lawmaker Abdel Moneim El-Elimi, who called it a painful blow to Muslims worldwide and to mankind as a whole. Al-Alimi demanded that the Uyghur movement issue an apology, take down this statement, and change its stance.

Furthermore, the Uyghur movement's declaration was denounced by Effat Sadat, the leader of the Sadat Democratic Party, the niece of the late President Anwar Sadat, and the Undersecretary of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Egyptian Senate. Sadat believed that the movement's stance was biassed against the Palestinian people and in favour of the Israeli occupation and land grabs. She believed that this position classified the Uyghur movement as enemies of the Palestinian cause.
