Aussie shares cheered by BHP's record annual iron ore output; NZ downThe energy index, fell for a sixth straight session after closing 0.6 per cent lower on Wednesday. Wall Street's positive overnight lead also helped the S&P/ASX 200 index put on 0.7 per cent to 6,245.1 at the close. The benchmark fell 0.6 per cent on Tuesday. BHP's shares rose 3.3 per cent to a near 9-month high on the news, and pulled up the mining index 1.4 per cent. The energy index, fell for a sixth straight session after closing 0.6 per cent lower on Wednesday.

Amazon shares slide despite record Prime Day results

Shares of Amazon ticked lower on Wednesday despite the e-commerce giant reporting its annual Prime Day was its biggest sales event ever. Coresight Research had forecast Prime Day sales to hit at least $3.4 billion. A company spokeswoman also told CNBC on Tuesday morning that "Prime Day sales in the U.S. so far are bigger than ever – in fact, in the first ten hours Prime Day grew even faster, year-over-year, than the first ten hours last year." Feedvisor also said Prime Day sales in the first 12 hours of the event rose 89 percent compared to last year's sales event. Prime Day got off to a rough start, however, as a massive glitch redirected shoppers away from the deals to pictures of dogs.

At 11:15 hours IST, the stock price was quoting at Rs 2,011.90, up Rs 21.85, or 1.10 percent on the BSE.
